February Layout of the Month Class

This year I want to get back to the basics and focus more on layouts...hence the last several posts. So I want to make sure there is a layout class for you each month. Classes are designed for anyone who wants to learn how to scrapbook or anyone who wants to try new tips and techniques...and everyone in between.

Here's this month's layout...featuring Scarlett from Glitz Design.

We'll play with stamping, frames, glossy accents and even cover some Cricut basics. And you'll see how fun it is to scrapbook with smaller photos!

I'm offering this class twice:
Thursday, February 24th & Sunday, February 27th

It's drop-in style, anytime on those days, but please
do me a favor and let me know you're coming =)

The class fee is $20 and please bring your basic tool kit and own bottle of Glossy Accents or purchase it here at the shop. We'll be using lots of it!

This class really works better if you come with photos,
so please bring at least 6 photos print wallet size.

All Over The Map...

My creativity has been all over the map this week....

First, I was so pleased to learn I can Glimmer Mist those wonderful resin appliques from Melissa Frances. It took a few coats, and a sponge brush to work it into the detail work but it looks great. I'm sure the new Tattered Angels Glam & Glaze will do the trick nicely, too. Incidentally, the mini book case from Kaisercraft is also Glimmered. I put together a fun display for the My Mini Memories books....they fit perfectly!

I kept playing with Quite Contrary from My Mind's Eye...such a fun collection and so versatile. The first features a gathered paper boarder that's stapled together. I also layered the sticker embellishments in the lower right corner. LOVE that MME added stickers to their collection!

I scraplifted this layout from the MME idea vault from MME designer Tiffani Smith. The only difference is I used the micro letters from My Little Shoe Box instead of printing them out. That's Jennifer W.'s son...stinkin' cute!

Then I moved on and played with two collections that arrived in the fall, but I never created anything with them. The first is from Glitz's Detour Collection which is just perfect for boys! I added doodle border rub ons from Glitz and layered journaling stickers for a fun collage.

This month's issue of Card Trends had several cut cards from Cosmo Cricket's collection The Boyfriend. I didn't make cards, but did put together this fun layout. I just love everything about this collection and it's so versatile....school, boys, college hangouts, vintage stuff...you know like way back in the 80s....anyhow, super fun to play with.

This page sample features the new collection from Glitz Design called Olivia. I paired it with an overlay from Hambly Studio. I practiced the destinctive Glitz technique of layering stickers...and finished it all off with a tulle accent.

I love, love, love the colors in the new Basic Grey Indian Summer. Here's a detailed look at this double page spread. I layered cardstock stickers and brads for extra dimension.

Customer Creations #4

Melet Horne stops by the shop almost every week and is begging me to open an online shop so she can continue shopping when she and her family move out of the area in a couple months. She says she hasn't been happy with the quality of things she finds on other online stores, but knows my things will worth it!

June Gloom Busters

This is my first chance to play with the Breaking Free Collection from My Mind's Eye.

Here are a few samples!

I mixed 3 different prints on this one and layered a transparency palm tree over palm tree image on the paper for extra texture. I took the distress look to a whole other level by actually crinkling up the die cut flowers and then adding them to the layout. Also, I love, love love, the fake "masking tape" on the die cut title and crinkled that, too! But for the 2nd time this month ric rac has saved my life...or the layout at least! I still wasn't thrilled with this piece until I added another anchor point with the strip of ric rac at the bottom left corner. Live & learn!

This layout features paper from Breaking Free's Cowabunga mini set. I ripped the paper and used the flip side as a mat! I accented the mat with vellum waves, using my Limited Ed. Fiskars wave squeeze punch. Finally, I pop-dotted the kraft tag. The string on these tags reminds me of old fishing nets...but thankfully doesn't SMELL like one =). Tip: use 3L Adhesive Transfer sheets for superb vellum adhesion!

I love the butterfly transparency and die cut in this collection and thought they'd compliment each other well. The acetate transparency is flush with the page and the paper die cut is just adhered at the center of the body so there's a neat 3-D effect. Then I lightly traced the patterned paper design with Stickles glitter glue in the Patina color.

This is a double page spread, but I don't know why it uploaded so tiny on the page....technology. Anyhow I knew I really wanted to use the cool roller coaster paper from the collection but was searching for the right 2nd page. Turns out the perfect fit was a 2nd piece of roller coaster paper...they match up nearly seamlessly creating one long crazy ride. But I added a focal point with the die cut paper along the top edge and mixed and matched a few other patterns on the layout.

Then I added a collage of rub-ons from Glitz Design that are a fun vintage print. Layering rub ons was one technique I learned at the Glitz Design marathon a couple weeks ago. There are 8 rub ons layered here...an entire sheet to be exact. It was extra challenging because the taupe color is semi-sheer, but I still like the way it turned out.

Just One Today

Actually I made this yesterday after I decided I was "right brain" dead and needed to use my left brain instead. This layout features paper from My Mind's Eye Pretty Please collection, inked in Scattered Straw Distress ink. I accented with wool flowers from Petaloo and Frosting strips from Glitz Design.

I'm starting to feel the same way today so check the blog tomorrow for more ideas!

Monday Moments

I had a 3 day weekend...3 days at the shop, that is. But I had a lot of fun working on class samples and page layouts for the shop.

Here's the first....it features Andrea Victoria from My Mind's Eye. I mixed a total of 5 patterns but each of them were different enough to keep it from being too busy! I gave the layout anchor points with the die cut sheet and titled the letters with fabric Thickers from American Crafts.

For all you "Hot Mamas" out there, here's Mom in the City featuring paper, rub-ons and stickers from Glitz Design.

And the Pièce de résistance...my Tattered Angel's Tattered Traveler album sample for our class on June 18th. I accented the book with the beautiful papers from SEI's En Route collection. I'll post more photos later...

Puttin' on the Glitz!

I was so proud to host the Glitz Girls, founders, designers, moms, co-owners and fabulous ladies at our Glitz Design Class Marathon on Friday! Here I am with Ginger, Erin & Laura!

Our first class was the set of Sparrow layouts.

Then the set of Rebel layouts!

Mary was thrilled to get out of the house and join us for a bit!

My mocha refill reads "Sonja's Special Drink." The Starbucks Barristas treat me so well!

During the mid-point break the consensus was that the Roller doodles, Roller distress stamps & the Acyclic Distress Stamps were the most popular new item & the rub-ons were a huge hit...both for their ease of use and super cool designs!!!!

Then on to the 6x6 mini glam album which was super fun!

& finally, the 12x12 Acrylic Album!
