27 extra hours

So I've been at the shop an extra 27 hours this week because of SHOP HOP, giving those hoppers from far away extra chances to visit the store. So with all that extra time, I thought I'd get crafty. Here are some of my creations from this week

Get Happy - Road Trip Acrylic Album

This acrylic album is from Creative Acrylics and is cut in a car shape. (I also got in a Christmas tree, Haunted House, & Baby Onesie) This was my first time working with an acrylic album so it was really a challenge at first. I used paper from Cosmo Cricket's Get Happy Line, as well as their coordinating rub ons and blackboard shapes. I finished it off with the Rub On Roller from Daisy D's and black ric rac from Bazzill. For adhesive I used 3L's Easy Dots...you can barely see them through the acrylic.

My beginner tips with acrylic albums...choose double sided papers; especially ones with fun designs on the back, like Cosmo Crickets, play with layering, leave parts of the acrylic clear, ie not covered and don't be afraid to get out of the box

Basic Grey Sultry Clipboard

Honestly, I can't get enough of this collection. I found an old wooden clipboard and modge podged it with the basic grey paper. I was even able to modge podge some of the chipboard shapes. The modge podge is a strong adhesive and a protective glaze; not exactly archival quality but perfect for a project like this. I finished if off with some of the coordinating fibers.

Just Dreamy Clock

The shop has needed a clock so I made one. The clock pieces were a kit that I had from somewhere...but we have similar ones in the Kaisercraft lounge. I covered it with paper from My Mind's Eye Just Dreamy collection. I used an assortment of Jumbo Paper Brads from Bazzill to finish the clock face. Of course, I got this bright idea after all the paper was glued down, so the brads are Glue Dotted to the paper. Also used Color Box Chalk Ink to add color and definition to the edges.

There's one more week of shop hop and another extra 27 hours, so you'll never know what I'll come up with next!

Today I found some UCLA die cuts at Screamin' Susies so I scooped them up for you. Sorry Trojan fans - they didn't have any left. They retail at $10 and I only have 7! I don't know if I'll be able to get these again, so if you want them, stop by soon, or call me and place a phone order.

Ahoy there, ye scallywag scrappers

Arrrggg! The Shop Hop treasure hunt be just a few hours. For ye pirates from a far off land, let me introduce myself. I am the Dread Pirate Scrappy Sonja and my lair is Sonja's Scrapbook Spot in Los Angeles. Just a wee bit ago this spot was just a mirage and but now we're a major port for scrapbookers in LA.

Ye'r make 'n' take be a simple project that you can recreate time and again, a gift card holder for ye friends and family. But it's no ordinary gift card holder. It be a treasure chest! Here's the view from the outside...

and here's ye view of the inside....

Ye'll have to fill it with ye own treasure, the gift card is not included.

For ye treasure hunt, there be doubloons hidden throughout the spot, but only a limited amount each day so come early for the best pickin's. You'll also get a doubloon for every $20 ye spend. There be a chest full of booty where ye can redeem those coins.

If ye be coming the shop for the first time, there be some things ye need to know. We're in an outdoor promenade mall and the water closets (bathrooms) are off center court. If ye need to make a pit stop ye best to do so on the way to the shop since I have no facilities. Also if the shop is closed for 5 mintues, ye'll know where I am. But have no fear, I'll be back shortly.

Ye should gave $2 ready to park. Ye may only need $1 depending on when ye come, but better to be safe than sorry.

There be plenty of galleys for ye to pick up some grub and fuel for ye journey. My favorites be Truxton's Short Order and of course the Starbucks oasis.

The lairs hours will be from 10am-8pm 7 days a week. I'll be burnin the lanters for ye early, late, and on Mondays. But there be some day's when I'll be open even later during crops. On August 8th, I'll be here until midnight and on August 16th & 23rd until 10pm.

Give us a call if we can help guide ye way.

Dread Scrappy Sonja

PS - do to circumstances beyond my control, I will be opening at 11am on Wednesday, August 13th. I'm sorry for any inconvenience this may cause.

I got to play on Monday!

My Monday's are sacred since its my only day off. Usually its reserved for sleeping in, doing laundy, napping and being a general couch potato. But this last monday I went to one of the post CHA vendor fairs to sample some new products. Here's a glimpse of the projects and lines coming in.

"Hello Sunshine" Mini Book
Rouge De Garance papers, stickers and rub-ons (shipping now)
Cosmo Cricket Chipboard album

"Thankful" Matchbook Album
Melissa Frances Thankful line
Melissa Frances has, as she put it, "kicked stage 3 breast cancer in the butt." She designed this beautiful line as a result. The line also has a healthy dose of humor like, "these are fake because the real ones tried to kill me!" A portion of the sales support http://www.breastcancer.org/.
Our shipment will arrive mid september, and be on the lookout for the "altered bra" contest in October!

Glimmer Mist chipboard album.
The more I play with Glimmer Mist, the more I love it. I guess it's because it makes it really easy for me to achieve an "altered art" look, without having much talent for it. So I orded the fall and winter limited edition colors, plus a few of the regular colors to round out the color wheel. They've also realease new Glimmer Screens, perfect for the winter. I also ordered some of their glimmer chips, like the one featured on the cover.

And if you were in this weekend you probably saw my mom and my friend Emily slaving away at my usual spot on the computer, trying to figure out Quickbooks for me and getting me caught up. This is not the "paper" that I deal with...so I'm ever so greatful for their help! And my sister was down for a quick visit and got to see the shop for the FIRST time, and craft a bit as well.

Also, some sad news to report....this summer has been very hard for the industry and 4 local stores are closing their doors: The Loft in Menifee, Paper Pansies in Garden Grove, Screamin's Susies in Whittier, and Sweet Peas and Snapshots in Los Angeles (online store to open soon.)

Thank you for all of your support as we enter month 5!!!
